International Marxist conference
20-22 June 2025
We are experiencing a world in upheaval. 80 years after the victory over German fascism in Europe, all signs around the world point to another major war. It seems as if the rise of fascist forces on the one hand and a deepening political and economic crisis on the other are increasingly converging. In June 2025, we are hosting an International Marxist Conference to discuss whether fascism is back in Europe. Read more.

"Non-capitalist development in Africa and Asia – Lessons from the 20th century"

In this lecture at the University of Bonn, we examined the theory of “non-capitalist development” in socialist scholarship during the 20th century and highlighted some concrete experiences in countries such as Mali, Congo-Brazzaville, and Afghanistan. When exploring both the successes and limitations of this strategy, we discussed how the collapse of the “socialist bloc” in 1989 and the rise of China have influenced the prospects of independent development in the former colonies today.
